How does an organizations form a culture?

A culture is unique to every organization. It is important to grow a culture in an organization as opposed to imposing one. An organizations culture is formed over time and is influenced by a variety of factors. These include the initial vision and belief system of the business founder or CEO, the business conditions the organization faces and the way in which staff are rewarded.

The single biggest influence on culture is leadership. The way people are lead will influence the way they behave. Culture can therefore change when organizations change CEO’s, owners or senior managers because they will have a different style of leadership. Effective leaders add to the culture every day by:

    • Addressing the organizations habits, rituals and ceremonies directly. They inaugurate some, dissolve others – to create consistency with the organizations vision, strategy, required skills and systems of beliefs.
    • Acting as a highly visible role-model of the behaviours the have a positive impact on the organizational culture.

What impact does cultural change have on an organization?

Many organizations have a Mission Statement, a vision and stated goals. An organization will only ever fulfill the Mission and Vision and achieve the goals if the organizations culture exists to support the staff in the day to day actions required for this to happen. When an organization embarks on a cultural change journey the way of operating the business will change. The aim is to generate a more constructive atmosphere in which to operate. This will impact the staff and well and the customers of the business.

Employees will notice a common language developing in the organization that encourages behaviour that is congruent with the organization fulfilling there Mission and Vision and achieving there goals. An emphasis on giving and receiving feedback about the impact of behaviour and receiving coaching

Customers or clients will notice an organization that takes the time to understand their needs and delivers solutions the meets there needs. They will also see an organization that believes in there people and the people enjoy working for the organization.

Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP) is a set of specific techniques that deliberately restructure towards positive functioning the brain’s thinking and the body’s behaviour by aligning the conscious with the unconscious mind and body.

There are 3 components of NLP

    Neuro –

The nervous system’s taking in of “reality” through the five senses

    • Visual (Sight)
    • Auditory (Sound)
    • Kinesthetic (Touch)
    • Olfactory (Smell)
    • Gustatory (Taste)

Understanding how the body’s and mind’s neurology works to better direct it toward more effective thoughts and behaviours

Creating new neurological pathways that break through mental boundary conditions

    Linguistic

Becoming aware of how communication occurs within self and others

    • Pictures
    • Sounds
    • Feelings
    • Tastes
    • Smells
    • Internal Dialogue

Using language to guide the mind towards change

Speaking to others within their particular representational system or their model of the world

    Programming

Understanding the mind is like a computer with thought patterns as the “software” discovering what programs are determining current experience

Using specific tools and techniques to reprogram, upgrade and install new “software” for optimal high performance
